Books I habe read
2025
- Children of Dune – Frank Herbert continuing my re-read of the Dune series, I finally got to see some of the cool sandworm scenes that I remembered. I also realized that I had absolutely zero reference point to psychedelic drugs when I read this book as a kid, and I wonder what exactly I thought of the excessive amount of time spent on Leto's forced spice ceremony.
- Exit Strategy – Martha Wells i also continued my first time reading the Murderbot Diaries. These books are so fun, and refreshingly short after slogging through things like Dune.
- A Canticle for Liebowitz – Walter M. Miller this book is about a monastic order founded to preserve books (and so knowledge) after a nuclear war and proceeding rabid anti-intellectual movement. i decided to reread this book in february when it felt timely. It's an interesting book. I think that a lot of the explicitly christian stuff goes over my head.
- Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said – Philip K. Dick I wamted to read more Dick and this was the most recent one that my friend had read. It's a trippy one with a few nice twists that left me wondering what exactly the reality was.
- I Keep My Exoskeletons to Myself – Marisa Crane following my tradition of accidentally reading queer sci-fi for Pride Month.
- Dr. No – Percival Everett what more can I say, this book is funny and smart.
- Network Effect – Martha Wells I started reading this one as soon as i finished the Murderbot TV series, which i also enjoyed. This is the firsy full length novel in the series and we get a lot of time to explore Murderbot's emotions and how they it relates with others. It introduces a new character and brings back another, both of whome I'm excited to see develop further.
- M.Y.T.H. INC. Link – Robert Asprin The early Myth books are a pleasantly quick comfort read for me, but the first time that I read this one I was quite disappointed. Each chapter follows a different character as they go on a mission, so they don't get to interact with each other much. The short story length does not lend itself well to this series. Asprin's conflicts are usually resolved with a very weak explanation, but the humor makes up for the plot. There's hardly any space for either in this book. Essentially, I forgot that I had already read this book until it was too late, and now I am writing a note to never read it again.
- For the Love of April French – Penny Aimes I saw this book on a shelf when it came out, and made a note to read it. I really started this in 2024, but I'm not used to romance novels and I ended up taking a break or two from it after the earlier sex scenes. When I picked it back up this fall, I was hooked. In the end, it's a really sweet book.
- Ranked Competitive Breast Growth – Beth Leigh-Ann & Talia Bhatt These girls are absolutely crazy. I'm nuts for putting that I read it on here. Reading this serial makes me feel like when I was 13 and trying to get into fanfiction.
